Jeweler David Webb--A New Book About His Pieces

I love jewelry, and especially animal-themed jewelry, so it was surprising to me that I'd never heard of the late David Webb, an American jeweler who designed fabulous pieces, many of which featured animals.  His pieces were bought by very rich women such as The Duchess of Windsor and Jacqueline Kennedy, and today, they're still bought by famous, and very rich, women, such as Gwen Stefani.

A new book published by the exclusive Assouline David Webb: The Quintessential American Jeweler is available for $85 through the publisher's website, but don't bother purchasing it from them, unless you're Gwen Stefani, of course (and she probably gets a complimentary copy), since it's available on Amazon for quite a bit less.  OOOOhhhh, I do want this baby.  It's the ONLY David Webb item I can afford, and just barely.

Let me tell you a little bit about this guy.  My source is The Wall Street Journal's fashion and other bullshit magazine which my husband (he's the one who reads The Journal) saves for me.  Many of Webb's famous clients wear his Twin Frog Bracelet--two amphibians giving a diamond-encrusted ruby a kiss.  This bracelet retails for $69,000.  David Webb was best known for his exuberant animal pieces.  He loved frogs and believed that they bring luck, so he had lots of frog decorations in his home and he incorporated frogs into the jewelry he designed.  But frogs are not the only creatures featured in his jewelry.

Here's what I'd like to do.  I'd like to find affordable Webb knockoffs!  If you've seen any, leave me a comment!  I'll love you forever!

Here are the crystal and gold Cheetah Ring and the famous enamel, diamonds, and rubies Frog Bracelet by David Webb
